Blue Heeler and Utes

Blue Heeler and Utes. This image won the "My Australia" photo competition by TIME Australia and was published in the 12/11/2007 edition. On our way back from a trip to the Snowy Mountains, we were passing through the township of Bredbo when I spotted this line of utes in a paddock next to the pub. I got talking to a few of the proud young owners and asked if I could take some photos. The utes were easy enough but I had only moderate success in taming the blue heeler. Since it was on a leash, I took the chance to get in close and low with a super wide lens. With the utes, the dog, the Australian flags and the Holden and R.M. Williams banners, this scene struck me as quintessentially Australian.
