Pat Lee

World War II veteran & Antarctic explorer Reginald Thomas Gregory (Pat) Lee marches every year. All I know of Pat’s service history is that he served as a Sergeant in the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) in 1944. He is one of those special ANZAC characters we see at the march each year.

Pat was the diesel mechanic for the Mawson Wintering Party 1957 which inaugurated scientific programs for the International Geophysical Year. From November to February 1958 he participated in a scientific expedition which traversed from Mawson to south Prince Charles Mountains conducting ice thickness measurements.

Included in hEAd oN exhibition.
