The SOLAS Big Boat Challenge is a yacht race for big boats held each year on Sydney Harbour. It is an exciting precursor to the Sydney Hobart Yacht race which starts each year on Boxing Day. The Twenty Beaches Ocean Classic is the most important and prestigious ocean kayaking event held annually off the coast of Sydney. This year the race started at Freshwater Beach and finished at Palm Beach some 25km north. The choppy seas and easterly breeze made for challenging paddling. This album would not have been possible without the able assistance of Rob Aitkins who provided the boat and showed extreme patience with this photographer who always seeks out the best locations and angles. This is an exciting annual yachting event organised by the Middle Harbour Yacht Club. It was held on Saturday 28 November 2015. The course takes in some of Sydney’s most recognised islands either side of the Harbour Bridge. This short ocean race commenced in Sydney Harbour and saw a fleet of ocean racing yachts race to Lion Island in Broken Bay and return to Sydney Harbour. It is one of the last three major offshore events prior to the Rolex Sydney Hobart.
